We have built something new for the Capetan community and I want to present it to you directly, without long introductions: Capetan Carpool - a platform where you can organise transport together to sailing courses or sailing events.

Why I built this
If you have been to a HOP or HOPA, You know the story: half of the crew comes by car from Bucharest, Cluj or other cities, each on their own, each with free seats in the car. I've seen it too many times - people travelling in the same direction, on the same day, but only connecting with each other on the WhatsApp group, with messages getting lost among 200 other conversations.
Capetan Carpool solves exactly that problem. It's a dedicated platform for members of the Capetan.club community to organise your travel to any sailing course, charter or event.
What the app does - at a glance
The platform has three (THREE! 😛) basic, simple and clear functions:
Offer a ride - Got spare seats in your car? Post a journey and invite other sailors to join you. Set the departure point, destination, date and how many seats you offer.
Find a seat - Don't have a car or prefer not to drive yourself? Search for an available journey to the same destination and request a seat.
Organise together - Once you're connected, communicate directly with each other and work out the details: time, meeting point, fuel contribution.
100% free - no fees, no commission, no payments
I want to emphasise one important thing: the platform is completely free. We do not collect payments and do not broker financial transactions. The cost of the fuel is shared directly between the participants, as you would agree if you were organising on your own. The difference is that here you have a centralised place to find each other.
How it works in practice
Let's say in two weeks you have a course HOP in Kavala and leave Bucharest by car. Enter on carpool.capetan.club, You just post a journey with your details - where you're leaving from, when, how many seats you have - and that's it. Other members with the same route can contact you directly.
Or the other way round: you don't have a car, but you know that other colleagues in the community are travelling the same route. You search the platform, see available rides and request a seat.
It's simple because it has to be simple. We haven't complicated it with unnecessary functionality.
Protecting your data
One important point we have taken into account from the start: your contact details are protected. We don't want community members' personal information to be visible to anyone browsing the platform. Contact details are only exchanged between people who have confirmed a journey together.
This was essential for us - the platform exists to help you, not to expose the community's personal data.
Who the platform is for
Capetan Carpool is dedicated to members of the Capetan.club community but available to everyone. If you are going on a HOP, HOPA, HOT, Mile Building, RYA Day Skipper, a charter or any sailing event, the platform is for you. It doesn't matter if you're a driver or a passenger - the important thing is to get better organised and reduce costs together.
And yes, it's also good for the environment. Fewer cars on the same road means less CO2. I won't make a marketing campaign out of it, but it's worth mentioning.
