Each participant is responsible for organising transport to and from the training location: Kavala. The most commonly used options are car and plane to Thessaloniki with transfer to Kavala. When car-pooling options are available, we will post them on the communication channels related to the event.
Weather-related essentials: wind stuff, rain stuff, cold stuff.
Non-marking footwear (2 pairs), shoes that can be worn in the water, toiletries, sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, shorts, t-shirts, swimsuit, casual evening wear, a warm sweater for night sailing, sailing gloves (optional), 12V charging cable for mobile phone (car charger). For courses in April, May and October, warmer clothing is recommended. Only compact luggage, no trolleys, no suitcases!
The marina in Kavala is able to provide secure car parking during your week's internship.
There won’t be an exam. The instructor constantly evaluates each participant over the practice week and there will be a final feedback session at the end. Our practice format is designed to ensure that, by the end of the week, you’ll realize on your own what your level is.

Typical charter boats, suitable for school activities, from 38 ft. to 45 ft.
Each crew consists of 5 students and 1 instructor. Each boat has a minimum of 3 double cabins. In the absence of prior arrangements, cabin spots are drawn by lot.
The itinerary takes into account each day's practice programme and weather conditions. You will most likely be in a new location each evening. The itinerary is not a typical tourist itinerary.
Alcohol is not allowed on RYA courses. Only soft drinks are allowed on board.

In some cases, yes. Check out HOP practice plan, available HERE: if you're confident you can handle what's listed there, you can sign up for HOPA. Or give us a call and we'll talk. Keep in mind that the HOPA reworks too little of the HOP elements, so it's more efficient to be on the same level as other students.
There is very little cooking on board as time is dedicated to practice! The price includes light breakfast and snacks. Lunch and dinner are served at local tavernas, according to each student's preferences.
Any previous sailing experience is a personal plus.
People who already have an internationally recognised sailing licence do not need to obtain a new licence. Of real value to them are the HOP and HOPA practice modules.
It is possible, but there is a wide range of drugs and alternative remedies available in pharmacies. The instructor can give you recommendations if necessary.

All Capetan certified skippers that will be part of your sailing holiday have undergone extensive training during Hands On Practice Training and Hands On Practice Advanced Training ; all have at least 2000 miles as skipper in private or fleet events; are ICC and RYA certified, with a planned continuous qualification. As we say, sailing is a language that requires lifelong learning.
