What is the history behind the Capetan logo?

Since many people are guessing, we thought it would be easier to tell you the story behind the Capetan logo. We Romanians love scenarios, but let me present you the original one.

The name itself came from the nickname I got from a friend, who, noticing my overzealousness on the organisational side, called me chieftain - with a dose of sarcasm included, of course. When we decided to set up sailing school, that sarcastic joke turned out to be useful. With humour and a little tweaking, we arrived at Capetan - which is actually a combination of chieftain and captain.

As for the logo, as with any logo I've contributed to over the years, many ideas were explored until we arrived at the final form you all know. The creative process is like a passage planning for a route offshore without tools - you know where you're starting from, you imagine where you want to go ... but how you get there, you discover as you go.

The captains' braids formed the basis of the first sketches:

The first directions explored included stars, lines, stripes, polka dots and looked something like this:

I synthesized, added a little color...

And slowly, we're getting closer to the final result...

After much experimenting with styling and formatting, we have a result we are happy with:

Listing the steps like this may not seem like much, but this logo is the result of 4 months of ideas, hours of brainstorming, sketches thrown around, new ideas, stylizations, computer mumbo jumbo. We are proud of the result, it represents us and we are still working, with passion and dedication, to make this hard-worked symbol represent what we set out to do from the beginning: the elite of charter skippers.
