Skipper's licence

Whether you call it sailing licence or boat navigation permit, Capetan's offer includes both the RYA certifications (Royal Yachting Association) and the ICC (C,D,S) one, issued under the RNA.

What is a sailing licence and why is it important?

A sailing permit (navigation licence) is an official certification attesting to a person's competence to operate a boat. The licence is required to legally rent, drive and operate a boat. The regulations differ from country to country and are closely linked to the type of boat and the type of water.

Why invest in a licence

  • Access to bareboat charters - most charter companies in Europe require a boat licence to rent bareboat (without skipper). If you hire a Capetan skipper or one from the charter company, you don't need a licence.
  • Safety - The boat licence is proof that skippers have a minimum knowledge of navigation. Charter companies are likely to ask for proof of practical experience! - visit page practical courses for the solutions offered by Capetan.
  • International recognition - Licences such as ICC or RYA are widely accepted in international waters.
